Zakat Kenya Hosts Iftar Fun Walk to Support Vulnerable Families

Organisers said the funds collected will go toward ensuring that vulnerable households are able to observe Ramadhan with dignity

Thousands of people turned up on Sunday February 8, for the 7th edition of the Iftar Fun Walk aimed at raising funds to support vulnerable Muslim families during the holy month of Ramadhan.

The 10-kilometre walk started at Adams Masjid, Ngong Road in Nairobi and concluded at Muslim Academy, drawing community members of all ages in a shared act of charity and solidarity.

The initiative organized by Zakat Kenya, combined physical activity with reflection and generosity, as participants came together to raise funds to help provide food for families in need.

Organisers said the funds collected will go toward ensuring that vulnerable households are able to observe Ramadhan with dignity and peace of mind. Zakat Kenya plans to raise Sh 25 million to feed 5,000 families during the fasting period.

Speaking during the flagging off event, Sheikh Abdullatif Abdulkarim, chairman of the Family Resource Centre (FRC) described the walk as a purposeful journey to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship.

“This is not just a walk. It is a noble act to support those less fortunate families especially at this time when thousands of people are suffering from the effects of the drought,” he said. 

The family-friendly event fostered a strong sense of unity and compassion, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility and community support during Ramadhan.

So far, the initiative has raised Sh8 million towards the campaign and organisers are appealing for more support to be able to realise the goal of feeding 5,000 people. Contribution can be sent via M-Pesa PayBill number 600765, account IFTAR.

Held since 2021, the Iftar Fun walk is among the most anticipated annual gatherings among Muslims in Nairobi and the event draws draw thousands of participants coming together to support the noble act of feeding less fortunate families.
