Look out for the Ramadhan crescent on Feb 17-Ag. Chief Kadhi
If the crescent is sighted on Tuesday, fasting will commence the following day, February 18. In the absence of a sighting, Ramadhan will commence on February 19.

Muslims have been called upon to look out for the crescent moon marking the commencement of the month of Ramadhan.
Acting Chief Kadhi Sheikh Sukyan Hassan Omar has appealed to the faithful to look out for the possible sighting of the crescent on Tuesday, February 17, corresponding to Shaban 29, 1447 AH.
He said his office will be open to receive and verify reports regarding the sighting.
“All Muslims across the country are hereby requested to be on the lookout for the crescent (hilal) on that evening and promptly convey any verified sighting to the Office of the Acting Chief Kadhi through 0794 339 467,” he said in a notice released on Thursday, February 12.

Additionally, Sheikh Sukyan said reports may be submitted through the nearest Kadhi, Imam, recognised scholar, Muslim organisation, or local community leader for onward transmission and verification.
If the crescent is sighted on Tuesday, fasting will commence the following day, February 18. In the absence of a sighting, Ramadhan will commence on February 19. As per tradition, the official announcement will come from the Office of the Chief Kadhi.
As the holy month of Ramadhan begins in the coming days, Muslims across the world will observe a fast that requires abstinence from food and drink from dawn to dusk as part of the Islamic ritual aimed at encouraging patience, charity, and community welfare.
