Massive fire engulfs Yare Plaza in Eastleigh

An inferno has engulfed Yare Plaza, one of the prominent shopping malls in Nairobi’s Eastleigh commercial district.

Photos and videos obtained circulating online show thick black smoke emanating from windows from the building which is engulfed by the flames.
Dramatic videos on social media platforms show frantic attempts by people trapped on upper floors of the building using cables and ropes, sliding down to neighbouring buildings in a desperate attempts to get to safety.
The Nairobi City County fire brigade is at the at the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Several businesses in the busy commercial area have been affected, forcing many businesses to close their operations.
The incident has led to massive human and vehicle congestion leading to a traffic standstill on many roads leading in and out the area.
Investigations into the latest fire are expected once the situation is fully brought under control.
Yare Plaza is located within the Yare Business Park which is among the prime business areas in Easteligh boasting a wide array of amenities which include retail shops, offices and a restaurant.
