Landmark Nyeri Waqf Project seeks Sh20 million for completion
The pioneering project in Central Kenya will play a vital role in strengthening Islamic institutions and ensuring the sustainability of community programmes.

The Islamic Da’wah Group (IDG) has appealed to Muslims, organisations and well-wishers to support the completion of the Nyeri Waqf Project, a landmark initiative expected to transform the socio-economic welfare of the Muslim community in Central Kenya.
The project, a joint initiative of the Islamic Da’wah Group (IDG) and the Nyeri Muslim Mosque Association (NYEMMA), requires Sh20 million to complete the construction of the five-storey building, which is now in its final phase.
IDG Chairman Sheikh Abdallah Ndope said the project had made significant progress and was now at a critical stage where financial and material support was urgently needed to bring it to completion.
The building, located in the predominantly Muslim neighbourhood of Majengo in Nyeri County, is the tallest structure in the area. It was conceived as a waqf (Islamic endowment) project to generate sustainable income for community programmes, including imam welfare, education bursaries, healthcare initiatives and other social welfare activities.
Sheikh Ndope urged Muslim organisations, community leaders, philanthropists and other well-wishers to contribute towards the project through financial donations or construction materials.
"The project is aimed at improving the livelihoods of Muslim residents of Nyeri by supporting education, healthcare, economic empowerment, mosques and da’wah activities," he said.

He described the initiative as a unique and pioneering project in Central Kenya that would play a vital role in strengthening Islamic institutions and ensuring the sustainability of community programmes.
According to Sheikh Ndope, most mosques in Nyeri lack reliable sources of income, making it difficult to meet operational expenses and pay the salaries of Imams and madrasa teachers.
"There are more than seven mosques in Nyeri, and most of them lack a reliable source of income. As a result, meeting the salaries of imams and madrasa teachers remains a major challenge. This is the reality we are seeking to change," he said.
Upon completion, the building will provide residential and commercial spaces whose rental income will finance community development programmes, support mosques and religious education, and create economic opportunities for young people.
"We have come a long way, but we still require about Sh20 million to complete this project. Once finished, it will have a profound impact on the Muslim community not only in Nyeri but across the entire Central Kenya region," Sheikh Ndope said.
“As Allah says in the Qur’an, ‘Help one another in righteousness and piety.’ Let us unite in the spirit of faith and generosity to complete this noble project for the benefit of present and future generations,” he added.
Support towards the project can be channeled through Mpesa Paybill number 707511 Account Waqf. Individuals and organisations wishing to support the project can obtain more information by contacting 0722 748 752.
