Nairobi Jamia Mosque Imam Sheikh Jamaludin Osman has called on Muslims across the country to unite and help complete the stalled Nyeri Waqf Project, saying the major endowment development has reached an advanced stage but remains incomplete due to lack of funds.

Speaking during his recent visit to Nyeri, the Sheikh said the five-storey Waqf building has already reached the rooftop level, with only the finishing works remaining. He noted that once completed, the project is expected to economically empower the Muslim community and support various Islamic and social programs in the region.

The project is being developed by the Islamic Da’wah Group in conjunction with Nyeri Muslim Mosque Association.

Accompanied by local Muslim leaders including Sheikh Adam Khamis and Ustadh Fahim Mohammed, Sheikh Jamaldin toured the site and expressed concern over the slow progress of the project.

He urged Muslim organizations, businessmen, well-wishers and the wider Muslim society in Kenya to support the completion of the project through donations and partnerships, saying the development symbolizes unity, sacrifice and long-term community empowerment.

The Sheikh also decried the welfare situation facing mosque workers within the local Muslim community. He noted with concern that some imams earn Sh5,000 per month, while the prayer caller, the muadhin receives no salary at all, and the mosque caretaker earns paltry Sh3,000 monthly payment.

According to Sheikh Jamaludin, the payments are far below acceptable standards for religious workers who dedicate their lives to serving the community. He called for greater appreciation and support for mosque officials and caretakers, saying they deserve dignity and proper facilitation.

During his Friday sermon at Masjid Qubaa in Majengo, the Sheikh the emphasized the importance of Muslim unity, cooperation and collective responsibility in addressing challenges facing the community.

The visit to Nyeri also featured several religious and educational engagements which included a special session with Muslim women where he delivered lectures touching on family values, parenting, faith and the role of women in community building.

He also met university and Kenya Medical Training College students at Masjid Qubaa, where he delivered a Darsa lecture focusing on Islamic morals, responsibility and balancing education with spiritual growth.

Students who attended the session described the lecture as insightful and timely, particularly in addressing moral and social challenges affecting young people in institutions of higher learning.

Earlier, the Sheikh also met youths drawn from the Nuru Umma Youth Group where fruitful discussions were held on the role of Muslim youths in strengthening the community, preserving Islamic values and participating in development initiatives.

During the engagement, Sheikh Jamaldin encouraged the youth to embrace discipline, education and unity, saying the future of the Muslim community depends heavily on the younger generation.

The visit concluded with prayers for peace, unity and progress among Muslims in Nyeri and across the country, with local leaders and worshippers describing the Sheikh’s engagements as educational, impactful and spiritually uplifting.
