United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan has issued an apology regarding controversial remarks he made during a party meeting in the Coastal region.

The apology came after mounting political pressure over remarks linked to ethnic politics, which have caused uproar especially from leaders from Mt Kenya region.

In a statement released on Sunday, Hassan emphasized that his speech was never meant to fueling animosity and division, or attack any specific ethnic group and was part of his long-standing, well-documented advocacy concerning land grievances affecting residents of Coast province.

“The remarks in question were made within the context of my long-standing advocacy on historical land injustices affecting the Coastal region, and were never intended to promote division, hostility, or animosity among communities,” Hassan stated.

He emphasized that his comments had been misinterpreted and taken out of context, insisting that they were never intended to demean, offend, or target any community.

"My comments were never intended to demean, offend, or target any community," he stated.

“To all those who may have been offended, I sincerely regret the misunderstanding and extend my apology,” he added.

The legislator went on to reaffirm his unwavering commitment to the dignity, rights, and unity of all Kenyans, noting that throughout his political career has consistently focused on addressing injustices rather than stoking ethnic hatred.
