Coast Police boss urges youth to embrace faith, shun crime
He emphasized the importance of Islamic principles such as compassion, justice, and peace, noting that these values positively transform individual lives

Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nunow Dubat has called on young people to embrace religious values and pursue activities that uplift their social and economic well-being, enabling them to become productive members of society.
He emphasized the importance of Islamic principles such as compassion, justice, and peace, noting that these values not only transform individual lives but also contribute to the moral development of society as a whole.
Speaking during a recent session of the Mandhry Motivational Classes at Mandhry Mosque in Mombasa, the commander urged young people to remain conscious of their faith, avoid negative peer influence, and engage in constructive activities that benefit the community.
“We are living in an evolving world filled with both challenges and opportunities. Scan your environment for opportunities. You have the potential to determine who you are going to become,” he said.
He further advised the youth to shun anti-social behavior, warning that crime, drug abuse, and other unlawful activities are detrimental to their well-being and future progress.
“We live in a world where crime and drug abuse are prevalent. Choose your friends wisely. Be conscious of groups and individuals with negative ideologies and keep away from them,” he added.
Ali Nunow also urged parents to take up their responsibility by providing moral and religious guidance to their children to help nurture responsible and productive citizens.
The commander addressed allegations that he had ordered a shoot-to-kill policy against criminals, stating that his remarks had been taken out of context.
“I respect the law, human rights, and human dignity. What I said is that we will use necessary force against anyone posing a danger to the lives of other people. Where the law permits, I will not hesitate to use a firearm to protect the lives of Kenyans,” he clarified.
At the same forum, former Director of Nairobi Metropolitan Services, General Mohammed Badi, urged the police leadership to intensify efforts to curb criminal activities in Mombasa.
During the engagement, Ali Nunow praised the organizers of the Mandhry Motivational Classes for their role in fostering positive change within the community.
The Mandhry Motivational Classes are held at the historic Masjid Mandhry in Old Town, Mombasa. The weekly Friday gatherings, focus on youth development and community empowerment. Facilitated by various coaches and scholars, the classes address topics such as leadership, relationships, and personal development.
