Umma University students to benefit from US$10 million Cybersecurity Scholarship

The scholarship programme will provide eligible students and staff with access to structured cybersecurity training designed to bridge academic learning with real-world practice.

Umma University has partnered with OPSWAT Academy in a scholarship programme aimed at strengthening digital skills, workforce readiness, and employability in the fast-growing cybersecurity sector.

The training focuses on equipping the next generation of cybersecurity professionals with the skills needed to secure critical infrastructure.

Through its global US$10 million scholarship programme, OPSWAT Academy has partnered with 16 organisations worldwide, providing access to cybersecurity training for more than 9,000 scholarship beneficiaries across the globe.

“Building on this momentum, OPSWAT Academy is proud to welcome Umma University as a new scholarship partner, expanding access to practical, industry-aligned cybersecurity education for students in Kenya,” said Irfan Shakeel, Vice President, Training and Certification Services OPSWAT Academy.

“Through partnerships like this with Umma University, we are enabling institutions to deliver high-impact learning that prepares graduates to protect critical infrastructure and support national development in an increasingly digital world,” he added.

The scholarship supports learners in obtaining and maintaining globally recognised cybersecurity certifications while building practical skills to protect critical digital infrastructure.

“The partnership with OPSWAT Academy directly supports our institutional commitment to producing competent technology professionals capable of safeguarding digital systems at national and international levels. By integrating structured cybersecurity training into our academic environment, we are strengthening workforce readiness and enhancing students’ employability in a fast-growing sector,” said Zahra Anne Maguta, Dean, School of Business and Technology, Umma University.

OPSWAT Academy is an international e-learning cybersecurity training platform specialising in Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), equipping learners worldwide with the skills needed to safeguard critical sectors.
