The awareness and fundraiser programme for Gaza held at Uhuru Park last Sunday realized Sh 17 million.

While appreciating Kenyans for their support, the Jamia Mosque Executive Officer, Said Abdallah, said the “Plant a Tree Save a Life” event was a testimony that Kenyans as well as the global community are standing in solidarity with Gaza.

“On behalf of Jamia Mosque and Voice For Palestine, we want to thank all those who participated in the event at Uhuru Park. We managed to raise about Sh17 million,” said the executive officer during Friday prayers.

He appealed to those who had given pledges to live up to their promise and help the people of Gaza.

The official further explained that the next phase of the tree planting programme planned for Karura Forest was on course, and details will be communicated to the public in the near future.

The “Plant a Tree Save a Life” event was organized by the Voice of Palestine, a consortium bringing together national and community organizations working together to raise awareness about the plight of Palestinians undergoing the genocide in Gaza. The advocacy group has, since its formation in November 2023 been instrumental in raising funds to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza.

During the event at Uhuru Park, the director-general for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr Medhat Abbas, appreciated the support of Kenyans towards the people of Gaza. “We will never ever forget about the kindness of the Kenyan people. Please raise your voice. This war has to stop. The Israeli occupation is killing our people,” he said.

Support towards the Gaza Fund can be made through MPESA Paybill number 150770 Account Tree4Gaza. Contributions will go towards purchasing food and medical aid for the people of Palestine, which will be distributed through international humanitarian partners operating in the region.

With the ongoing invasion of Gaza City by the Israeli genocidal forces, the situation in Gaza remains critical, with millions of people experiencing displacement and widespread hunger and lack of basic needs.

The daily bombings have led to numerous losses of lives, destroyed entire neighborhoods, and devastated essential infrastructure, leaving families dependent on limited humanitarian aid. Many households are barely surviving, with rising cases of starvation, especially among children.

The few remaining hospitals are under-resourced, overwhelmed by casualties, and lack essential medicines, gravely limiting their operations.
