The Mohamed VI Foundation of African Oulema has announced 40 scholarship opportunities offered by King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

The scholarships, which are dedicated to religious studies, aim to strengthen Islamic scholarship and contribute to the development of a well-trained cadre of religious leaders within Kenya's Muslim community.

Successful applicants will pursue their studies at the Institute of Imams, Murshidin and Murshidati in Rabat, Morocco, where they will undergo training designed to prepare future Imams and murshidaat (female religious guides) to address contemporary challenges facing Muslim societies.

The training programme combines practical and theoretical Sharia studies with humanistic disciplines and vocational training, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills required to serve their communities effectively in the modern age.

According to the scholarship announcement, the programme will run for two years, with an additional year available for students who may require remedial courses. Instruction will be conducted in Arabic, making basic proficiency in the language a mandatory requirement for applicants.

Candidates must have memorized portions of the Holy Qur’an, although memorization of the entire Quran is not required. Applicants must also be Kenyan citizens aged between 22 and 45 years and be in good health to undertake the studies.
