The government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Northern Kenya into a vibrant and investment-ready region through major infrastructure and housing projects.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo said the Isiolo Township Affordable Housing Project is a key pillar of this vision, aimed at improving living standards and unlocking economic potential in the region.

The project, launched in October 2023, is situated at LMD and rapidly taking shape, features eight residential blocks comprising 300 modern housing units — including 60 studio apartments, 20 one-bedroom units, 160 two-bedroom apartments, and 40 spacious three-bedroom units.

On site, 60 local workers, drawn entirely from Isiolo and its environs, are actively engaged in various stages of the construction, gaining valuable skills and generating income for their families.

The project is already injecting fresh energy into the local economy. Small businesses are benefiting from increased demand for goods and services, while the construction work is boosting the uptake of local materials and labour.

Dr. Omollo noted that construction has reached an advanced stage, with tiling, plastering, and window and door fittings currently underway.

He emphasized that beyond providing decent housing, the project is also stimulating Isiolo’s local economy by creating employment opportunities for youth and women, as well as boosting local businesses through the supply of materials and services.

“The government remains steadfast in its commitment to secure and open up Northern Kenya, ensuring that once-marginalized regions like Isiolo become vibrant, investment-ready hubs of opportunity,” Dr. Omollo stated.

The Isiolo governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo praised the initiative saying that it will improve livelihoods of area residents and play a key role in the transformation of the county.

“This is more than construction. It is economic empowerment, with hundreds of young people from Isiolo gaining jobs, skills, and income. Families will access dignified, modern, and affordable homes. The project is reshaping our skyline, improving livelihoods, and accelerating the transformation of Isiolo County,” said the governor.

The Isiolo housing project forms part of the government’s broader Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to deliver thousands of quality homes across the country while promoting inclusive growth and regional equity.
