Director, Peace Building and Conflict Management

The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is hiring Director, Peace Building and Conflict Management.

Two vacancies available, and applicants must have at least 15 years of experience.

Job Scale
CSG 5

Requirements;
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
(i) cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Deputy Director, Peace Building or Conflict Management, CSG 6 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service;


(ii) a Bachelors degree in any of the disciplines: Peace and Conflict Management, Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, anthropology, sociology, Social Work, Law, Diplomacy and International Relations Resolution and Humanitarian Assistance Studies, Project management, Strategic Studies, Psychology, Criminology, Police and Military Science or Gender and Development from a university recognized in Kenya;


(iii) a Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines; Peace and Conflict Studies, Criminology, Anthropology, Sociology, International Conflict Management, International Relations, Law, Conflict Resolution and Humanitarian Assistance, Development Studies, Strategic Studies, Disaster Management, Gender and Development, Diplomacy, Public Administration, Public Policy and Administration, Security Studies or Police and Military Science from a university recognized in Kenya;


(iv) a Certificate in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;


(v) demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability required for the effective planning, direction, control and coordination of the Peace Building and Conflict Management Function

Duties and Responsibilities;
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
(i) formulating and reviewing policies, laws, regulations, standards, guidelines, strategies, programs and mechanisms governing peace building and small arms control in liaison with other stakeholders;


(ii) facilitating research;


(iii) initiating the domestication and implementation of treaties, protocols, agreements, mechanisms and resolutions;


(iv) mobilizing resources, fostering collaboration and partnerships with bilateral and multilateral agencies in support of peace building and small arms control programmes;


(v) monitoring and evaluating peace building and small arms control programmes;


(vi) providing technical advice on peace building and small arms control;


(vii) formulating a framework for National Peace Awards and commemoration of National and International peace events;
(viii) providing secretariat to National Steering Committee on Peace Building and the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms; and
(ix) planning, budgeting, capacity building and performance management of staff.
