It is all systems go after the police in Mombasa gave a green light to the tree planting programme aimed at supporting the people of Gaza.

The event will be held on November 8, 2025, at the Mama Ngina waterfront and will be preceded by a procession from the Mombasa Tusks monument, commonly known as Mapembeni, along Moi Avenue.

According to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Mbwarali Kame, the event will start with a solidarity march and a motorcade from Mapembeni through Uhuru na Kazi, State House and finally to Mama Ngina Waterfront, where the tree planting exercise will be held.

“Adequate security coverage and traffic control will be provided as per the frame of the law during the event,” said a letter signed by Bernard Makumi on behalf of the OCS Central Mombasa.

The letter was in response to a request from the county administration to the police for security to facilitate the smooth progress of the event.

To ensure smooth movement, the county will also deploy officers from the city inspectorate to help in regulating the traffic flow.

The Mombasa county government has partnered with other stakeholders, including Imams and Muslim leadership in the coastal town, together with Al Haajar TV and the Nairobi-based Voice For Palestine in organizing the event. Proceeds generated from the tree-planting exercise will go towards the humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

In the tree planting event organized for Gaza, held at Uhuru Park in Nairobi last month, more than Sh17 million was raised, and the upcoming event in Mombasa, the organizers have set a target of Sh30 million.

During a consultative meeting involving Imams last week in Mombasa, the director of human resource administration in the county government, Amir Ghalub urged Mombasa residents to come out in large numbers and donate generously towards the cause for Gaza. “It is our duty and responsibility to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and support their welfare through this cause,” he said.

He said the suffering being experienced by the people of Gaza was unprecedented, and it was an obligation upon Kenyans to stand with the people of Palestine at their time of need.

To be part of the tree planting programme, purchase a tree at a cost of Sh500 through MPESA paybill number 150770, account Tree4Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Voice For Palestine has announced that the planned tree planting exercise, which was slated for yesterday, October 12, at Karura Forest has been postponed to a later date. “We regret to inform you that our tree planting event, which was scheduled for October 12, has been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. A new date will be communicated soon, inshaa Allah,” said a statement from the advocacy group.
