More than 2,000 Zakat Kenya distributes More than 2,000 families in Nairobi have benefited from a food distribution exercise courtesy of Zakat Kenya, aimed at supporting vulnerable households during the holy month of Ramadhan.
The initiative was funded through contributions raised during the Iftar Walk held at the beginning of this month. The event brought together well-wishers and community members to mobilize resources to feed vulnerable families during the fasting period, reflecting the Islamic principles of charity, compassion, and social responsibility.
Through the funds raised, Zakat Kenya successfully purchased, packaged, and distributed 2,000 food hampers to needy Muslim families living in informal settlements across Nairobi. Each food package was packed with essential household staples sufficient to sustain an average family throughout the month of Ramadhan.
The distribution benefited families in several areas of Nairobi, including Kawangware, Mukuru (Kwa Njenga and Kwa Reuben), Mareba, Lunga Lunga, Majengo, Kibra, Kiambiu, Korogocho, and Eastleigh—areas that are home to many low-income and vulnerable households.
While expressing appreciation for the generosity demonstrated by Kenyans, Zakat Kenya CEO Munawar Esmail said the programme was designed to ease financial pressure on struggling families and enable them to observe the holy month with dignity and peace of mind.
“The initial target was to reach 5,000 families. Alhamdulillah, we managed to support 2,000 households who experienced relief and dignity during this blessed period. Every contribution made a real difference in someone’s life,” he said.
The initiative reflected the spirit of generosity, unity, and solidarity that defines the holy month of Ramadhan—a period marked not only by fasting and prayer but also by increased charitable giving. Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the support eased their burden and allowed them to focus on spiritual reflection and worship during the sacred month.
