Saudi Arabia has introduced a new requirement for pilgrims attending Hajj in 2026, making it mandatory to carry a Nusuk Card to access key religious sites.

According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, all pilgrims must present the Nusuk Card to enter the holy sites and the Grand Mosque during the pilgrimage. The measure is part of efforts to regulate access and manage the large number of worshippers expected during Hajj.

The Nusuk Card is an official smart identification document issued to all registered pilgrims and remains valid for the entire duration of the pilgrimage, from arrival in Saudi Arabia until departure. It is the sole document recognized by authorities to confirm a pilgrim’s identity and legal authorization to perform Hajj.

The card plays a central role beyond identification. It stores personal and medical information, accommodation details in Makkah, Madinah, and the holy sites, and links pilgrims to their service providers.

It is also used to organize transportation, including bus boarding and group movement across the holy sites, and to provide access to welfare and support services during Hajj.

Pilgrims are required to carry the card at all times, and if the card is lost, pilgrims can request a replacement through their service provider, use the digital version, visit a Nusuk Care Center, or contact the unified call center for assistance

Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Passports has announced that hajj pilgrims can now travel within Saudi Arabia using a digital visitor identification instead of carrying a passport.

The directorate said pilgrims can obtain the digital ID through the Ministry of Interior’s Absher platform, enabling easier and safer movement across the Kingdom during their stay.

The digital visitor ID is recognised as an official document and can be used for travel within Saudi Arabia, removing the need to carry a physical passport, it added.

Authorities said the measure is aimed at facilitating mobility for pilgrims and enhancing convenience, particularly during the busy Hajj season.
