IUK introduces pre-university programme to nurture Islamic values among students
The programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles and core teachings of Islam as well as the principles of Arabic language

The Islamic University of Kenya (IUK) has introduced a pre-university foundation programme aimed at nurturing Islamic values among students.
The Foundation Programme in Arabic and Islamic Studies is designed for students who have completed high school, with the aim of equipping them with foundational Islamic knowledge and Arabic language proficiency, strengthening their religious values, and nurturing essential skills as they transition to university.
The programme provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles and core teachings of Islam as well as the principles of Arabic language.
The one-year study programme will be conducted through the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies. “The pre-university Foundation programme provides students with a strong foundation in Arabic language and Islamic studies while developing their personal and intellectual skills in a supportive educational environment,” said the deputy vice chancellor Dr. Ali Said Sunkar.
While the diploma programme is primarily targeted at high school students serving as a preparatory step for further undergraduate studies, Dr. Sunkar clarified that those who want to nurture their Islamic knowledge and Arabic language skills will be given consideration.
Among other features in the programme which will be conducted in a period of one and half years, include skills development and da’wah outreach.
The programme will be undertaken at the university main campus, at Kisaju along the Nairobi-Namanga highway in Kajiado county, as well as the South C campus Nairobi for female students, the Mombasa learning centre at Madrasatul Munawar and the Sheikh Siraj ur Rahman College in Kisauni.
Among its other unique academic courses, the Islamic University of Kenya, in collaboration with the Makkah Center for Qur’anic Guidance, offers a higher diploma in Qur’anic Hidayat, an academic programme focused on deepening Quranic understanding, interpretation (Tafsir), and application for spiritual growth.
Apart from Islamic and Arabic religious studies, the charted university offers academic programmes in business, education, technology, and the humanities.
