The Islamic University of Kenya will hold its third graduation ceremony on Saturday, December 6. The event will take place at its main campus in Kisaju, Kajiado county. The graduation comes a week after the university named a new chancellor, Dr. Mohamed Abdinoor Dahir, who replaced Dr. Ahmed Bilal Waqar who had completed his four-year term of service.
The graduation will be presided over by the University Chancellor Ambassador Mohamed Mahat, while the Garissa Governor Nathif Adam Jama is expected to be the guest of honour.
It is another academic milestone for the university, which had its beginning in 2002 as a college offering Islamic and Arabic studies into one of the chartered universities in the country.
“We remain committed to nurturing an institution that develops such builders, graduates whose moral grounding is as firm as their academic foundation. We pledge to advance this legacy so that IUK continues to shine as a beacon of ethical, affordable, and high-quality education in Kenya and beyond,” said the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sheikh Dr Mohamed Osman.
In all, 447 students will be awarded degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various fields of study, which include sharia, Islamic studies, Arabic, business management, education, and qiraat (Qur’an recitation).
Eighty-six students will be awarded degrees from the International University of Africa based in Khartoum, Sudan. Since its inception, the university has developed academic collaboration with the Sudanese university to offer degree, diploma, and certificate programs in Sharia, Islamic studies, and education.
Among its unique academic courses, the Islamic University of Kenya, in collaboration with the Makkah Center for Qur’anic Guidance, offers a higher diploma in Qur’anic Hidayat.
The university recently entered into a partnership with the Defence Forces School of Education and Languages to train its personnel in Arabic and professional short courses.
Apart from the Kisaju campus, IUK runs learning centers in the Nairobi-South C campus, Mombasa, and Garissa.
