Fulfil your Zakat obligation –Zakat Kenya
Nisab is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver, in cash equivalent it is Sh217,000.

Muslims with savings of at least Sh217,000 held for a minimum of 12 months are now eligible to pay Zakat, according to Zakat Kenya.
The organization says this amount represents the nisab — the minimum threshold of wealth that obligates a Muslim to give Zakat. The nisab is pegged to the market value of gold and silver and is therefore subject to change depending on daily price fluctuations of the two commodities.
Under Islamic guidelines, nisab is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. The threshold ensures that only individuals with sufficient wealth are required to give, in line with the principle of supporting vulnerable members of the community.
Zakat is calculated at 2.5 percent of an individual’s total net zakatable assets — including cash, savings, gold and silver, and investment shares — provided the wealth has remained above the nisab level for one full lunar year.
Zakat Kenya, an organization dedicated to the collection and distribution of Zakat, has urged Muslims — particularly during the holy month of Ramadhan — to fulfill their obligation in observing the third pillar of Islam. While many choose to pay Zakat during Ramadhan due to the heightened spiritual significance of the month, the obligation becomes due once one lunar year has passed since the wealth first exceeded the nisab.
“Our primary objective is to harness the power of Zakat and utilize it to benefit the needy,” the organization said in a statement.
Funds collected through Zakat have supported various empowerment initiatives, including assisting beneficiaries to start small businesses and become self-reliant. The organization has also awarded bursaries to students to help them pursue their education.
In addition, Zakat funds have been used to support medical cases by covering treatment costs and settling hospital bills for patients in need.
Payments can be made via M-Pesa Paybill number 153088 under the account name “Zakat.”
Since its establishment in 2017, Zakat Kenya, based at Adams Masjid on Ngong Road, has played a significant role in uplifting and empowering individuals across the country.
