Eid-ul-Fitri: Calls for Unity and Continued Worship Mark Celebrations in Nyeri
The faithful were reminded that devotion should not be confined to Ramadhan alone.

Muslims across Nyeri County marked Eid-ul-Fitri on Friday with congregational prayers held in various mosques, as leaders emphasized the importance of sustained worship beyond the holy month of Ramadhan and called for peace among the country’s political leadership.
The largest gathering was held at Al-Falah Mosque, where hundreds of faithful assembled early in the morning under overcast skies to mark the end of the fasting month. The weather conditions led to a change in tradition, with prayers not being held at the usual DEB Muslim Grounds. Instead, worshippers convened at different mosques across the region, including Majengo Mosque, Kuba Mosque, Ruring'u Mosque, Masjid Taqwa, Jamia Mosque Karatina, Kiganjo Police Training College Mosque, Narumoru Mosque, and King'ong'o Prison Mosque.
Delivering the Eid sermon at Al-Falah Mosque, the Imam Ustadh Imran Yusuf Mwalim reminded Muslims that devotion to Allah should not be confined to Ramadhan alone. “Allah is not only to be worshipped in Ramadhan or on Eid,” he said. “There is a need for the faithful to remain steadfast in their prayers, charity, and good conduct throughout the year.” The message of spiritual consistency resonated with congregants, many of whom expressed the importance of maintaining the discipline cultivated during the fasting period.
Leaders from the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) and the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) also addressed the faithful, shifting focus to the national political climate. They issued a strong appeal to political leaders to desist from engaging in public spats and trading insults through the media.
The leaders warned that continued political hostility risks undermining national cohesion and development. They emphasized that peace at the national level is essential for progress and called on all stakeholders to foster mutual respect despite political differences.
Despite the change in venue arrangements due to weather conditions, the Eid celebrations were marked peacefully, with Muslims coming together in large numbers to pray, reflect, and celebrate. The gatherings concluded with prayers for unity, peace, and prosperity for the nation, as faithful dispersed to continue with family celebrations marking the end of Ramadhan.
